Dress Code Policy
The purpose of a dress code is to ensure an academic atmosphere in our classrooms and halls during school hours. Bear River Middle School requires students to use the following guidelines to determine their choices in attire:
Tops must have 2-inch shoulder straps
Clothing covers areas from one armpit across to the other armpit, down to approximately 3 to 4 inches in length, to the upper thighs.
See-through or mesh clothing must not be worn with appropriate coverage underneath that meets the minimum requirements of the dress code.
Shoes must be worn.
Clothing may not depict, imply, advertise, or advocate:
● illegal or lewd conduct, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other controlled substances.
● sexual, derogatory, obscene, vulgar, racist, hurtful, or hateful language.
● pornography, nudity, or sexual acts.
Any clothing or apparel that conveys a specific, particularized message that school officials can prove has caused, or imminently will cause material disruption of classwork, substantial interference with the school's work, or invasion of the rights of others may be prohibited.
Parents are the primary educators of their students. We ask that parents encourage students to support the dress code while attending classes at BRMS.
The following consequences will be used with students who fail to comply with the dress code.
First offense – Students will be warned and asked to change clothing to comply with the policy.
Second offense – Parents will be notified, and students will be asked to change clothing to comply with the policy.
Third offense - Students will receive an Administrative U and be asked to change clothing to comply with the policy.
Continued offenses – Additional administrative U’s will be issued with additional interventions as determined by the BRMS administration.
For excessive dress code violations, guardians will be contacted for collaborative solutions.
***Administrative Note - Dress codes are inherently subjective. The administration will make every effort to be consistent in the implementation of the dress code.
